Eugene Kenyon
I planted my very first dahlia seed in 2006, and the hobby took root quickly — so quickly, in fact, that I joined LCDS in August 2007 and found myself in a judging class the very next weekend. By September 2007, I was judging my first show. When dahlias call, I apparently answer immediately. I founded Rivers Dahlias in 2009, bought our farm in 2010, and welcomed Rosie onto the team. Today we grow approximately 11,000 dahlias and focus heavily on hybridizing new varieties. Over the years, I’ve taken and helped teach more than 100 hours of dahlia judging schools, grown nearly 50,000 first-year seedlings, and been honored with two gold medals. Let’s just say the seedling patch keeps me busy. And for the record, River—my firstborn and only child—is the namesake of the farm, proof that both kids and dahlias thrive with a little patience, attention, and a lot of dirt.
Rosie Cooper-Vert
I began my life of growing dahlias at a commercial level in 2021. I am the Farm Manager for River’s Dahlias. I manage all things dahlia on our 4-acre farm. I began my journey as a hybridizer in 2022. I focus mainly on open center/disc dahlias in my seedling programs. I currently hold Candidate judge credentials with American Dahlia Society (ADS) & Pacific Northwest Dahlia Society (PNDC). I am an educator and mentor of many dahlia growers. Let’s just say Eugene keeps me busy.

How To Start Saving Your Own Seeds
Learn flower seed saving from this farmer florist turned seed farmer. What started with a smokey lavender scabiosa in a planting of Oxford Blue scabiosa, Cassie turned a curiosity for flower selection and seed saving into a farm based seed company. In this presentation you’ll learn pollination and breeding basics, seed harvest and drying techniques and how to clean and store the seeds for gifting and personal use.
Cassie Plummer is the owner of Jig-Bee Flower Farm, where she grows beautiful, unique blooms that bring joy, color, and inspiration to her community. With a deep commitment to sustainable farming practices, Cassie is passionate about offering high-quality flowers and seeds while building a supportive and encouraging flower-growing community for customers at every stage of their journey.
After eight years of urban intensive flower farming and floral design in Philadelphia, Cassie relocated to northeastern Vermont to be closer to family and to cultivate a simpler, quieter life rooted in the land. Today, Jig-Bee Flower Farm (Vermont edition) specializes in flower seed production and provides fresh seasonal flowers to local customers as well as floral designers across New England and New York.
Floral Standards: A Professional Guide to Quality Harvest & Delivery
Learn best practices for harvesting and handling cut flowers and foliage to achieve consistently professional-quality blooms. Drawing on collective grower experience, this class covers essential techniques including identifying the ideal harvest stage, post-harvest care, proper conditioning, and presentation. Participants will gain practical insights to extend vase life, maintain quality during transport, and ensure flowers meet high standards from the field to the final display. Ideal for flower growers, floral designers, and anyone seeking to elevate the quality and longevity of their floral products.
Vivian Larson is the owner of Everyday Flowers in Stanwood, Washington, and a lifelong flower farmer raised with a deep respect for building healthy soil and caring for the land. She began growing and selling bouquets in 1990 and quickly developed a devoted customer following, proving, as she says, that “good flowers sell themselves.” Vivian is a member of the Seattle Wholesale Growers Market, a contributing author of Floral Standards: A Practical Guide for Harvesting and Delivering Professional Quality Products, and is featured in Debra Prinzing’s The Flower Farmers. With decades of experience growing flowers that thrive on her farm and perform beautifully in the vase, Vivian remains, first and foremost, a grower at heart.
